Private gynaecology services are available at Waterstone Clinic, Tivoli, Cork.
We specialise in the management of menorrhagia (heavy periods), uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis, the menopause, and contraception, particularly inserting and removing Mirena systems.
We feel that all women in Ireland should participate in the national cervical screening programme, and are happy to complement this programme with a private smear service where results are available within two weeks.
Waterstone Clinic offers the following diagnostic services:
- Transvaginal Ultrasonography: an internal ultrasound scan providing clear images of the uterus and ovaries
- Hysterosalpingography: a specialised x-ray test giving information about the uterine cavity and Fallopian tubes
- Hysteroscopy: A hospital-based test where the uterine cavity is viewed with a camera
- Laparoscopy: A hospital-based procedure to view the reproductive organs with a camera
Patients referred for gynaecological assessment will be given an appointment to see a consultant, a detailed history will be taken and a transvaginal scan carried out. A speculum examination (as for a smear test) may also be carried out, if necessary.
Hospital-based tests are generally carried out at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork.
Should surgery be necessary, it will be carried out by Dr John Waterstone at the Bons Secours Hospital, Cork.
