The gynaecology practice offers a private smear service, with results available within two weeks. We are happy to complement the National Cervical Screening Programme in Ireland.
Diagnostic Services
The gynaecology practice offers a range of diagnostic services. Dr Waterstone specialises in the management of menorrhagia (heavy periods), uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis, the menopause, and contraception, particularly inserting and removing Mirena systems.
The practice can provide services including:
- Transvaginal Ultrasonography: an internal ultrasound scan providing clear images of the uterus and ovaries
- Hysterosalpingography: a specialised x-ray test giving information about the uterine cavity and Fallopian tubes
- Hysteroscopy: A hospital-based test where the uterine cavity is viewed with a camera
- Laparoscopy: A hospital-based procedure to view the reproductive organs with a camera
Patients referred for gynaecological assessment will be given an appointment to see a consultant. A detailed history will be taken, and a transvaginal scan will be carried out. If necessary, a speculum examination (as for a smear test) may also be carried out.
Hospital-based tests are generally carried out at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork.
Should surgery be necessary, it will be carried out by Dr John Waterstone at the Bons Secours Hospital, Cork.
