Diagnostic Services
The gynaecology practice offers a range of diagnostic services. Patients must be referred by their GP for gynaecological assessment.
Dr Waterstone specialises in the management of menorrhagia (heavy periods), uterine fibroids, uterine polyps, endometriosis, the menopause, and contraception, particularly inserting and removing Mirena systems.
The practice can provide services including:
- Transvaginal Ultrasonography: an internal ultrasound scan providing clear images of the uterus and ovaries
- Hysterosalpingography: a specialised x-ray test giving information about the uterine cavity and Fallopian tubes
- Hysteroscopy: A hospital-based test where the uterine cavity is viewed with a camera
- Laparoscopy: A hospital-based procedure to view the reproductive organs with a camera
At the consultation, a detailed history will be taken, and a transvaginal scan will be carried out. If necessary, a speculum examination (as for a smear test) may also be carried out.
Hospital-based tests are generally carried out at the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork.
Should surgery be necessary, it can be carried out by Dr Waterstone at the Bons Secours Hospital, Cork.
