Dr John Waterstone
Dr John Waterstone MD MSc MRCOG CCST leads Waterstone Clinic and has devoted his life to women’s health and fertility in the pursuit of parenthood for his patients. He has been the leader of many important milestones for reproductive medicine in Ireland.
Dr Waterstone established Waterstone Clinic (formerly Cork Fertility Centre) in 2002. The Centre has since expanded nationally, with additional clinics in Dublin, Limerick, and Waterford. Dr Waterstone prides himself on being at the forefront of Assisted Reproduction in Ireland. He and his team are known internationally and collaborate with top clinics in the USA, UK, Spain, and Cyprus. He has led the introduction of new fertility techniques to Ireland, many of which have become standard practice.
Dr Waterstone was the first to deliver the first babies born following Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) treatments; Pre-implantation Genetic Screening (PGS); and Microsurgical Testicular Sperm Extraction (MicroTESE).
Dr Waterstone’s clinic was the first Irish clinic to implement routine blastocyst culturing, paving the way for elective single embryo transfer. The clinic was also the first to successfully use vitrification for embryo cryopreservation, which improves the viability of frozen embryos.
Dr Waterstone’s career began in the Science Faculty (Genetics) and Medical School of Trinity College Dublin before moving to the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin. Dr Waterstone trained in Obstetrics & Gynaecology before continuing his training and teaching hospitals in London. Dr Waterstone is a consultant obstetrician at Cork University Maternity Hospital and is involved with undergraduate and postgraduate medical education at CUMH. He is committed to leading innovation in Reproductive Medicine in Ireland.
Dr Eithne Lowe
Dr Lowe is a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine and leads the Dublin team. Dr Lowe joined the Waterstone Clinic team in 2021. She has more than twenty years of experience in fertility.
Dr Lowe completed her specialist training at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London, and worked as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in Galway.
Dr Lowe is particularly interested in working with couples on lifestyle issues to improve the chances of natural conception initially.
Appointments for consultations with Dr Eithne Lowe can be made in both Waterstone Clinic Dublin and Waterstone Clinic Kildare.
Dr Peter Wiegandt
Dr Peter Wiegandt MD CCST MRCPI is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with specialist training in Reproductive Medicine and extensive experience in fertility. Having previously worked in the largest IVF unit in Budapest, Dr Wiegandt joined the Waterstone Clinic team in 2007.
Dr Wiegandt’s interests and expertise centre on male fertility, pre-implantation genetic testing, and gamete donation.
Appointments can be made with Dr Weigandt in Waterstone Clinic Cork and Waterstone Clinic Limerick.
Dr Alexandra Toth
Dr Alexandra Toth is a Consultant in Reproductive Medicine at Waterstone Clinic Cork. She joined the team in 2022.
Following her medical training in Hungary, Dr Toth undertook specialist training in gynaecology, working in gynaecological surgery and fertility-related surgery, and completed her training as an Obstetric & Gynaecological Specialist. She had a keen interest in fertility and began working as an IVF Fellow and obstetrician in Budapest in 2016.
Working in IVF clinics and private hospitals, she gained invaluable experience in IVF procedures and obstetric practice, working with multidisciplinary teams before joining the Waterstone Clinic team in 2022.
Dr Toth’s area of special interest is pre-implantation genetic testing and egg donation. Appointments can be made with Dr Toth in Waterstone Clinic Cork.
Dr Komagal Selvakumar
Dr Komagal Selvakumar is a fertility specialist in the Waterstone Clinic Dublin team.
Dr Selvakumar completed her medical training (MBBS) in India and undertook specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. After working in this area for almost a decade in hospitals in India, she moved to Ireland to work at the Beacon Hospital.
She joined the Waterstone Clinic team in 2022 to pursue her passion for fertility medicine. She has a particular interest in fertility check, egg freezing and pre-conceptual care.

Susan Waterstone
Our CEO is Susan Waterstone.
Susan is a founding member of Waterstone Clinic, and she oversees and manages the clinic nationally.
Susan has led the delivery of the services since the opening of Waterstone Clinic.
Mary McAuliffe
Mary McAuliffe is Head of Clinical Services at Waterstone Clinic. She is a registered nurse and midwife, and a founding member of the fertility nurse specialist team.
Mary leads the delivery of the clinical services across Waterstone Clinic and has a vast amount of knowledge in the field of Reproductive Medicine.
Dr Tim Dineen
Dr Tim Dineen is a founding member of Waterstone Clinic. He is an ESHRE-certified Senior Clinical Embryologist with specialist training in Genetic Counselling.
Tim leads our Quality Team, heads our onco-fertility preservation service, and founded our Pre-implantation Genetic Testing programme at Waterstone Clinic.
Dr Xiao Zhang
Dr Xiao Zhang is the scientific doctor for Waterstone Clinic and our laboratory manager. He is a medical doctor with a PhD in reproductive medicine. His research has been published extensively, and he received an honorary professorship from Zhengzhou University in China.
Xiao was the first doctor in China to achieve an assisted pregnancy from frozen eggs and introduced the first PGT programme in Cyprus.
Xiao leads the team and innovations in the Waterstone Clinic laboratory.
Stephen Gill
Stephen is the Chief Financial Officer at Waterstone Clinic. Stephen has over 35 years of business experience and has held senior positions in professional services, financial services, IT services, and aircraft leasing.
Stephen holds a Bachelor of Economics from Sydney University and a Masters of Business Administration from UCD. He is also a Chartered Accountant (Australia).

Our Nursing Team
Our national team of over 30 fertility nurse specialists guide our patients through the treatment process and provide day-to-day care.
Our fertility nursing teams are led by Clinical Services Managers Mary McAuliffe and Laura Hackett.
Our nurses have backgrounds in nursing and midwifery, with comprehensive fertility medicine and ultrasonography training.
Our specialist programmes, Egg Donation, Sperm Donation and Pre-implantation Genetic Testing, have dedicated nurses with vast experience in the area to support you through the process.
Laura Hackett
Laura Hackett is the Clinical Services Manager for Waterstone Clinic Dublin. She is nurse manager and has over ten years of experience in reproductive medicine as a fertility nurse specialist.
With a background in midwifery and nursing, she is passionate about fertility awareness and ensuring everyone has the best possible chance of having a family. She leads the delivery of clinical services in our Dublin clinic, helping couples and individuals achieve their family goals.
Donor Sperm Team
Our dedicated donor sperm team guides patients through the process of using donor sperm in treatment. The team will guide you as to the required pre-work, testing, how to use the sperm bank databases to choose a donor, and will arrange legal administration.
Fertility Nurse Specialist Ursula Lynch is the Donor Sperm Coordinator for Waterstone Clinic nationally, leading the Donor Sperm team.
Egg Donation Team
Our dedicated egg donation team guides patients through the process of using donor eggs in treatment. The team will guide you as to the required cycle pre-work, genetic testing, how to use the donor recruitment database to choose a donor, and arrange legal administration.
Anna is the coordinator of the egg donation team. She is a fertility nurse specialist and has many years of expertise in egg donation treatment.
PGT Team
Waterstone Clinic has a dedicated Pre-implantation Genetic Testing team to guide and assist you through the testing process and treatment cycle.
Fertility Nurse Specialist Edel Lane is the coordinator for our national PGT Programme. Edel is a fertility nurse specialist and registered general nurse.
Edel has many years of expertise in Pre-implantation Genetic Testing and will guide you through all of the initial steps, coordinate your cycle with the PGT, liaise with the genetic testing laboratory, and support you throughout.

Sarah O’Boyle
Sarah O’Boyle is the Laboratory Manager and senior embryologist at Waterstone Clinic Dublin. Sarah has an MSc from UCL in Reproductive Science and Women’s Health.
Sarah has over a decade of experience working as an embryologist in UK and Irish fertility clinics. She leads the laboratory team in Waterstone Clinic Dublin.
