10,000 Babies and Counting

We understand that patients have one big question: “What is my chance of having a baby?”

The most influential factors for success are the laboratory’s track record, the female’s age, and the experience of the clinical team delivering the care.

When choosing your fertility clinic, it is important to compare success rates and experience. A proven track record of consistently delivering excellent live birth rates will demonstrate the skill of the scientific team.

Across all of our results below, we use the ultimate measure of success: a baby born from treatment.

IVF Success Rates

IVF treatment and ICSI treatment at Waterstone Clinic offer patients an exceptional chance of success. Age is important in fertility, so our success rates are divided by age.

Following a blastocyst transfer at Waterstone Clinic, an intending mother who is:

  • 34 years of age has a 64% chance of success;
  • 38 years old has a 45% chance of success;
  • 40 years old has a 30% chance of success.

from cycles in 2022 and babies born in 2023.

Live Birth Rates: Completed Cycles

When evaluating success rates, it is important to consider the success of complete cycles. This is the success rate from each egg collection, including fresh and frozen transfers, within a set amount of time.

We present our success rates in this way to be truly useful for patients, giving more meaning and context to the question, “Will my IVF be successful?”  Collating the data this way also allows precise comparisons with clinics internationally.

Our cumulative success rates for IVF/ICSI are excellent at every age group. From each egg collection, patients who are:

  • 34 or younger have a 64% live birth rate;
  • 35-37 years old have a 61% live birth rate;
  • 38-40 years old have a 45% live birth rate;
  • 41-42 years old have a 32% live birth rate;
  • 42+ year olds have a 20% live birth rate.

Comparing Internationally

Our team at Waterstone Clinic always strives to be the best in Ireland and internationally.

The success rates at Waterstone Clinic surpass the USA and UK averages in every category.

These comparisons use the statistics most recently officially reported to the USA and UK governments (CDC, 2020, SART 2020, and HFEA, 2018). We can use the latest official reports to compare our success against international leaders.

IUI Success

For a patient with normal fallopian tubes and no significant endometriosis, IUI can a successful treatment. At Waterstone Clinic, the live birth rate for a patient who is under 35, our success rates are:

  • 14% live birth rate when using sperm from your partner
  • 28% live birth rate when using sperm from a donor

Many patients build their entire families using simple IUI treatments.

Egg Freezing Success

When considering egg freezing, survival rates and the potential for a successful pregnancy in years to come must be considered. Thawing and fertilising frozen eggs is a very specialist process: you should only entrust your precious eggs to a clinic that can demonstrate its experience and clinical results. We are the first clinic in Ireland to provide the open-system egg vitrification technique, and delivering this gold-standard system has enabled us to achieve remarkable outcomes for oocyte freezing.

We have extensive experience thawing and fertilising frozen eggs, especially through our donor egg programme. We import frozen donor eggs, and our embryologists thaw and fertilise them at Waterstone Clinic.

Our team has a proven thaw rate of over 90%, thawing over 1,000 frozen eggs. We are proud to offer unparalleled oocyte cryopreservation services in Ireland.

Donor Egg Success

We have the longest-running egg donation programme in Ireland, delivering a wide range of options, from imported frozen donor eggs, to patient-sourced donors, to coordination services with partnered clinics abroad.

Our imported donor egg programme delivers exceptional success. Partnering with a European donor recruitment clinic, our team thaw and fertilise the donor eggs at Waterstone Clinic and transfer the resulting embryos to our patients. Our unwavering dedication to scientific excellence delivers an egg survival rate of over 90% and a live birth rate of over 65% from each collection of frozen eggs across more than one hundred completed cycles.

Comparing Success Rates

While clinics should always report the rate of babies born as their success rate, sometimes they present other measures. The below measures may give a falsely high success rate, and it is important to keep this in mind when comparing success rates.

The below milestones are helpful, but do not guarantee a live birth.

  • Positive Pregnancy Test: This is the earliest success point, where a positive result is seen on a pregnancy test.
  • 6-Week Pregnancy Scan: This is an early pregnancy scan two weeks after the positive test, where a pregnancy sac should be visible.
  • Clinical Pregnancy: This is an early pregnancy scan carried out at 8 weeks gestation (a month after the positive pregnancy test). A fetal heartbeat can be seen in this scan.

Information to Consider

When comparing success rates, it’s important to consider the following:

Your Own Age: Age is a significant factor in IVF success. Look for data specific to your age group, and this can provide more accurate information for comparison.

Multiple Years of Data: IVF success rates can vary from year to year due to various factors. Consistency is important in performance, so explore success rates from multiple years.

Specific Procedures: If you are considering procedures such as egg freezing, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) or egg donation, enquire about success rates for those specific treatments.
